No Thumbnails created

The thumbnails do not show on the page when uploading videos on the server. When uploading from the local thumbnails work. Any idea?

The files are created, but those are just blank screens, just dark picture...

Same problem.

Windows 2003 SP2.

I tried manually converting a video remotely using encoder through remote desktop (RDP) and had the same problem.  I then updated encoder to version 2 SP1 and now I can manually convert and encoder will create the thumbnail.  Uploading using my Video.Show site still produces a 1k black thumbnail :(

I am going to try using the service to do conversions as that will allow me to specify an identity for the process and I suspect that this may be a permissions issue.
I will post my findings once I try this.

Thumbnails work when I use the service available from the patches section http://www.codeplex.com/videoshow/SourceControl/PatchList.aspx

Sounds like the rights issue. I wonder what exactly rights I need to assign. Is it for IIS Internet user or ASPNET account?

Is this the  patch #1008 I need to apply? I understand this will work as NT service, which is better solution. How do you stop processing of videos by Video.Show application, so video processing does not happen in both places?

Yes, patch #1008 is correct. You will need to modify the following setting in the web.config.

add key="ImmediateVideoProcessing" value="false"

I added the VPService project to my solution and updated it's app.config with the nessesary entries to do the conversion. There is a readme.txt file with a one line instruction on how to register the service. I left the permission as the default "Local System Account" to see if it worked and it did. I will change that to a reduced access account later.

Great! Got it working! There was some important patch missing:

windowsmedia-kb942423-x86-intl.exe

Looking at the log table was very helpfull to determine taht thumbnail was not created. After that I just run encoder and got mesagge that some codec is miising, followed the link and installed the patch!

But the thumbnails are still black! Any idea?? The videos are processed, uploaded to server, but thumbnails show blank!

I have installed SP 1 for exconder as recommended...

OK, I have looked at the settings.dat file in the Windows Temp file and I see something strange there:

        ThumbnailTime="00:00:00"
        ThumbnailMode="FirstFrame"

Is this correct? Should I and How to change it?? How is thsi generated?

Here is the whole file:

I have changed settings in jobfile.xml, but still getting the same problem (blank thumbnails). Here is my new settings.dat:

        ThumbnailTime="00:00:00"
        ThumbnailMode="BestFrame"
        ThumbnailJpegCompression="75"

How do I remove ThumbnailTime? Seems this is screwing up. Unless I am missing something...

I got the settings fro here" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc294683.aspx

ThumbnailTime :<HH:MM:SS>   Specify the location of the frame that you want to use as your thumbnail. When you type a variable for this option, it forces the thumbnail mode to Custom (see earlier in this topic).

OK, I know where the problem is (with blank thumbnails generated). It i sthe web service (patches section) that is not working correctly. If processing videos in the web application, it works fine! Any idea?
