Deleted video not deleted on SilverLight Streaming Server?

Jan 24, 2008 at 10:21 AM
I noticed that when a user deletes an uploaded video in the application, the (local) db is updated accordingly, but the video does not actually get deleted from the SilverLight streaming service. Is that correct?

This way the SL-streaming account can quickly get filled with orphan videos (and the 4GB barrier can be exceeded, without the need to do so)

Is this behavior by design, or will this be addressed in the RTM of Video.Show?

In the meantime, can you point me to directions on how to delete videos on the SL-streaming server from within the VideoDO.cs file?
Thanks in advance,

Peter Kassenaar.

That feature is not yet avaialbe in Video.Show. However you have two options:

1) Login to your Silverlight Streaming and manually delete the videos.
https://silverlight.live.com/

2) Add code to call the REST API during the delete.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb851616.aspx
Note: There is an example of how to call the rest api in the upload process.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Manually deleting is not an option of course (besides in really small testing setup), as I want a video automatically deleted on the SL streaming server when a user deletes his/her own video from the site.

Thanks again,
Peter.

I have deleted from my tempupload folder

in SilverlightStreamingUpload.cs file

locate
//Delete temp files in release mode.

and type this below..

{
string localFilename = "C:\\Inetpub\\wwwroot\\videoshow\\Web\\tempupload\\" + filename;
System.IO.File.Delete(mediaFilename);
System.IO.File.Delete(localFilename);
System.IO.File.Delete(zipFilename);
}

Peter, if you worked out the code to delete automatically from the Silverlight server could you share that code with us?

I was working on this, but then had some work to do on another project. Meanwhile the RTM version of Video.Show was released and I haven't found the time yet to follow up on this one.

If I continue I'll sure leave a message on this board, or contact the project team to have the feature implemented in a future version of Video.Show.

Peter
